While trying to plan our Epic Road Trip, we were also trying to find a boat. Making travel plans while trying to purchase our own boat to live on (part time, anyway) was a challenge in several ways. We got lucky and found a boat for sale a few slips down from the one we were staying on. I liked it right away, but neither of us wanted to buy the first boat we saw. We spent quite a bit of time driving around looking at other boats, as well as time on the road picking up our mail in Bellingham, where we will eventually live.
What we didn’t know is that the beginning of boating season in the PNW is May 1. In preparation for that, everyone is getting their boat worked on, hauled, splashed, purchased, etc. That meant that mechanics, surveyors, brokers, and everyone else involved in the boat-selling/buyer process was super-busy! That usually would not be a problem, except that our Epic Indy Road trip to our Epic Indy Weekend was coming up. We planned to hit the road on the morning of May 20th – not much time for everyone to get everything done.
Fortune was with us, as the boat that we wanted was right on the dock at Everett Marina, which is where all the surveyors, mechanics, and brokers (for the most part) were located. Since we had few time constraints other than our May 20th deadline, it was just a matter of working around everyone’s schedule. Everyone was very understanding, and did their best to get the work done.
Bottom line? As of later today (Monday, May 23), we will own a new boat! This is turning out to be an epic trip in more ways than one!
